Future of the car according to Budhoose

I do not believe that car, as we know it today, will continue for long on the roads. Let us look at what is wrong with the car as a mode of transport.

It is too expensive a mode of transport.

It uses (at least as of now) fossil fuel for energy. We cannot continue to use fossil fuels. It is immoral to say the least. Fossil fuels are one time gifts of the nature to human beings. We cannot afford to waste it literally in a flash. It is an injustice to future generations. We may have no other use for the fossil oils other than as a cheap fuel. What if the coming generation come up with a better use for the hydrocarbons? What if they found out how build ever lasting comfortable buildings with the oils! If we finish off the oils they will not pardon us for that.

The smallest car on the road weighs about 1000 Kgs. Most often one person travels in a car. A bus carries 50 person and weighs about 15000 Kgs. In terms of a car it would have been 50000 Kg in weight! Look at the wastage.

I hate to drive a car; so do most people. Driving discharges my batteries. I dread backing up a car into the garage, especially at night.

I have to keep awake and alert while driving a car. I can dream or better still ogle while traveling in a bus. I do not have to clean or wash a bus or get the pollution certificate.

I see the transport of the future something like this.

There will be no powered private or public transport on the road.

There will be no motor transport on the road.

But there will be plenty of transport from any where to any where at any time of the day. All that I will have to do is to wait in front of my house and flag down a 'bus' and get into it and tell the driver exactly where I want to get down. This was the system in the past in my place till this became a town!

All the vehicles will be animal drawn, say a small van like light vehicle drawn by a bullock or a horse. It will have seats for passengers and space for luggage.

Of course the roads will be filled with animal dung, but it will still be better than diesel smoke and dangerously fast buses and cars. Collecting the animal dung will be another industry with good scope of profit.

Yes, it will take an hour to travel the 10 Km from my place to Kochin, but right now it takes that mush time in a car or bus. So what is the problem?

The benefits

The roads will never break down. No one will be run over by a car or bus. The petroleum import will dwindle. That will save our foreign exchange. A large number of small and big companies will make money by manufacturing light, efficient animal drawn vehicles. Large number of poor people will earn a living by owning one or two bullocks. There will be no parking problems on the roads. There will be no car breakdowns on the road.

The best part will be there will be no loud horns, noise or smoke pollution on the road.
